Next, was Dr. Paul Cheliah Suppiah, who talked about Veterinary Association Malaysia and exposed us to the animal health care and veterinary consultancy services that are available at V.A.M. Through his presentation, I have realised the importance of this association, because without this team, the country would have suffered a huge loss from the livestock industry.
Overall, the talk given by the speakers were very informative and really did exposed me much more to the veterinary world.
DAY 2 (15th SEPT. 2015)
Phewwwww, the Career Week continued with three young lady speakers: Dr. Melissa Phoon (Clinical Practitioner- Small Animals), Dr. Yew Ee Ling (Pharmaceuticals) and Dr Eve Foong Yee Wei (Veterinary officer- Zoo).
Dr. Melissa outset the day with a distribution of chewing gums! (LOL, I did not managed to get one though) The presentation was basically about Dr. Melissa's life and experience, which was lively enough to pursue me to join the Small Animal Vet.
The following orator was Dr. Yew, who brought me into contact with a brand new world:- the Pharmaceutical World. She told us about different brands of pharmaceutical medicine and the differences between local companies and other MNCs.
THE SUNWAY LAGOON LADY! Dr. Eve shared with us the journey she has been through before becoming a Wildlife Vet at Sunway Lagoon! That was an interesting one, because I guess my passion lies there. A wildlife vet have to overcome lots and lots of difficulties, such as bites and scratches, physical and mental (emotional) stress, etc.
However, life is fair. To be able to see the newborns of the animals grew means a lot to the vet him/herself. Guess this is how the saying "Give and Take" works.

***P/S: Oh yeah, never forget to mention about receiving a goodies bag with a folder, a pen and sticky-flags in it! The pen was pretty smooth though***
This marked the FINAL DAY of Career Week.
Dr. Chua Chee Heng, who was a Psychology Veterinary Officer ( gave us a talk about animals handling and management (If I'm not mistaken.) He also did guide us, the students on how to choose a career which suits us----- Using the RIASEC theory. To take the RIASEC test, just simply click HERE . One reminder, just appreciate your own achievements, look back and see how much you gone through and grew.
After that, Dr Mohd Shariff Mohamed Din gave us a lively, fun and interesting talk. He first touched a little about his own specialty, which was in Aquatic Veterinary Studies (Who would have thought of, that fish and shrimps need a doctor too???!!!) Nevertheless, Dr. Shariff shared with us a lot of his wise thoughts and words, especially on how to communicate, how to work and not least, how to "survive" in this society.
"I FIND THAT THE HARDER I WORK, THE MORE LUCK I SEEM TO HAVE"-Thomas Jefferson
Lastly, it was Dr. Rebecca Tan's (Equine Medicine Veterinary Officer) turn to present her part. Surprisingly, none of the student in the auditorium wants to become an equine vet (Or people were just too shy to admit it?) Therefore, Dr. Rebecca shared with us her life as a UPM student.
"IF YOU HAVE THE PASSION FOR SOMETHING, YOU WILL WANT TO OWN THAT, AND THUS, YOU WILL THINK DIFFERENTLY."- Dr. Rebecca
In a nutshell, the final day of Career Week was the most inspiring day I have ever had in my life. I am really grateful to have joined this event, because I cannot deny that I have learned a lot, either in the Veterinary field or the soft skills that I should have acquired in order to be a better person. My perspective towards a "Vet" has changed, a lot, thanks to this special and beneficial activity.
PASSION
To be honest, I am still looking for my own passion, but I will either be a Small Animal Vet, a Wildlife Vet, or an Aquatic Vet, nothing other than one these three. However, all these might change one day. Probably in the next couple of weeks, months or years, hopefully I will discover my own passion in this field.
THE SPEAKERS
In my opinion, my favorite speaker is Dr. Shariff because he managed to inspire me and it was really fun to listen to him speaking in front. However, the rest of the speakers were all good. **Thumbs up**
Lastly, thank you for spending your precious time reading this blog (which was my first time doing this!) Have a great day.
